FAQs

2014-03-19 15.14.02What makes babytalk la unique?
Our program is a true blend of getting expert advice and having the opportunity to meet and bond with local parents who have babies (or will have babies in the case of the pregnant moms group) the same age as yours.  The curriculum is research-driven and the roster of Experts who come in to present is extensive.  The list includes pediatricians, preschool administrators, child safety specialists, early childhood development specialists, sign language instructors, lactation specialists, infant massage instructors, trust & estate attorneys and financial planners to address how to plan for your little one, etc. There is not an Expert every week–we like to allocate time for discussion so that the parents can talk about what is going on with their baby. Often times, the parents get very helpful advice from the other parents in the group during these discussions.  The facilitators are all moms who have recently raised babies and have been selected for their knowledge base and facilitation skills.

How do I sign up?
Please visit the Sign-Up section of our website and fill out and submit an online application. Once we receive the application, we will review it and place you in an age appropriate group. It may take us a little while to get back to you given the complexity of the scheduling, so please don’t fret! As soon as the schedule is set for new groups, we will send you an email. In the event that an opening becomes available for a group in process, we will refer back to the waiting list.

When do groups meet?
Infant and Toddler groups meet Monday – Saturday. The times vary based on the age group.   Once a group is formed, we do our best to keep the meeting time the same for the remainder of the Infant/Toddler lifespan of the group. Occasionally, we do need to shift the time but we do our best to accommodate the parents in the group. Expecting Parents groups meet weekdays in the evenings from 5:50pm-7pm.

How can I see the schedule of groups?
Because of the complexity of scheduling, we do not post group schedules. If you are interested in joining a group, please visit the Sign-Up tab and complete an application. One of our staff will respond to you with availability. Groups tend to fill up quickly so we suggest that you apply as soon as possible.

What is the cost of a 10 week session?
Infant & Toddler Groups are $450 for a 10 week session.

Expecting Parents Groups are $450 for a seven week session.

Once you are placed in an upcoming group, we ask for a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold your place. The balance of the fee will be due one week prior to the start date of your group.

We don’t charge extra for twins, triplets, quadruplets, etc.

There is no enrollment fee.

All payments are non-refundable.

Who can attend the groups?
Each group is attended by ONE parent and one child, unless you are in a Couples Group or a Grandparents Group. We ask that the same parent attend most of the groups because of the relationships and feelings of “letting down your guard” that are formed between group members. However, we understand that it is not always possible for the same parent to make it due to time conflicts, colds, etc. In the case that the primary parent cannot attend, the other parent is welcome to attend. Other family members, nannies, etc. are not allowed to attend groups.

The exception to this is the Expecting Parents group–we encourage both parents to attend with no additional fee.

What is your sick policy?
We respectfully ask that if you or your child is sick or may be getting sick, that you do not attend group. It is very difficult to tell what might be contagious, so our rule of thumb is that if your child has a runny nose or any other signs of illness that you err on the side of caution and do not bring him/her to group. You are more than welcome to attend by yourself if you have someone who can watch your child at home.

Will I be able to make up any groups that I miss?
Unfortunately, we do not offer make up groups. Each group has the same members and leader that are unique to that group. It is important to us to respect the confidentiality and trust that has been established in each group. Therefore, it would be awkward to have other parents attend other groups. Your leader will email the group a brief synopsis of what was covered in group that week along with any relevant articles or handouts.

Is it possible to check out a babytalk la group before I sign up?
Each group is very private so we cannot allow visitors. We think you will appreciate this policy once you are a babytalk la group member!
